Bamboo

Bamboo with fluorescent bulb illumination.

Larger one is 5' high in a planter with stones around the base. Uses energy efficient 4' T8 Alto bulb and electronic ballast. Pink/red glow.

Smaller one uses cold-cathode fluorescent bulb and ballast. Glows green.

Prototypes for "In space"

Blue one is copper with LED illumination, and red is stainless steel with incandescent illumination. Both have stainless steel and purple heart wood bases.

Punched copper tower

Annealed and punched copper cylinder in light fixture base. 4' high. Annealing the copper gives subtle variations in color throughout the piece.

Hubcap

My first lightsculpture. Chrome hubcap, antique copper heater, LEDs, fiber optics, compact fluorescent bulb. One switch turns on the LEDs which light up fiber optic cable that terminates around the edge of the piece, glowing in alternating red and blue. The other switch turns on the CF bulb in the middle.

TwisteDNA

Fiber optic cable, lucite rods, copper and aluminum base, light pump. 5' high.

 

Built in response to an exhibition entitled 'Genesis" at the Henry Art Gallery in Seattle. 23 FO cables illuminating and representing chromosomes.
